if you enabled managment inside openvpn server config then using the openvpn control
software you can see who is online via openvpn control GUI...

If you are looking for a site to site vpn, pfSense, smoothwall, Untangle, etc. would be a good choice. You don't need to mess with the details of the vpn connection by just using the gui.

A good cross platform client to site vpn is openvpn. This type of VPN works good through NAT and is easily setup through a firewall. There are clients for windows, linux, iOS, and I assume android since it is linux based.

I know there are many tutorials on the net for setting up VPN client and server.

I you find one that is simple/short please put a link, I am interested only in the server part.

For client, I will use OS X so I prefer a solution that uses L2TP over IPsec or PPTP because I suppose Cisco IPsec would cost something.

I don't want to spent too many hours setting it up. You know, maybe someone already made a setup script

Note: I am using an EC2 micro instance running Ubuntu 12.04 on it.

I need to set up a VPN server, but I have only non-root shell access. I've tried using pptpd with slirp but could not get it working. Is there any other way? Right now, I have SOCKS access, but need UDP working as well. Thanks.
