VPN Discussion / How a VPN Helps with Network Problems
« Last post by syncmedia123 on November 08, 2021, 04:00:18 AM »
One network failure along the way will affect your entire connection. If you’ve discovered an issue like that with Traceroute, then it might be possible to solve it with a VPN. For instance, let’s say the network data travels through a node in France on its way to the U.S., and that node is experiencing an outage.

By connecting to a VPN server in a different country, your data needs to travel through a different network. Essentially, you force the connection to take a separate route to its destination. This may not increase your browsing speed, but it may solve any connectivity issues.
Of course, that entirely depends on which route the VPN server uses to connect to the final website. It might take a bit of trial and error before you find the right server that will correct the problem.

Another way to improve your connection issues with VPN is to use a high-performing protocol. The OLOW VPN protocol is recommended in this case because it’s lightweight for devices to run, with excellent handling for poor connection quality.

Bandwidth Throttling
Why your ISP would throttle your connection. One of them is that you’ve gone over your data cap for the month, so everything slows down to a crawl. Unfortunately, a VPN won’t help you bypass your data caps. You’re stuck with paying more for no caps or switching internet providers.

With that out of the way, a VPN can help with selective throttling. This occurs when ISPs wish to curb traffic to specific websites and apps. Sometimes, this is a method of antifighting between major telecoms and media companies, with consumers caught in the crossfire. But in more significant instances, it’s one of the tools used by government to enact undue censorship.

VPN Discussion / Re: Reasons to Use a VPN this Holiday Season
« Last post by Endymion882 on November 05, 2021, 08:51:05 AM »
I've been using VPN for multiple reasons. Talking about holidays, I always find good deals by using a VPN, last summer I could buy an incredibly cheap flight to Portugal at $4.56 with cabin language. Then, it also was very useful when I had to use a public WiFi spot. So, yes. It's a must-have while traveling.
Hope this helps! Success!

VPN Discussion / Main difference between Proxy vs VPN?
« Last post by syncmedia123 on November 05, 2021, 05:27:17 AM »
VPNs and proxy servers both guard user identities. VPN & proxy are great tools for accessing content securely. Since both of these services can get the job done, people tend to speak of them interchangeably.

Proxy server
Proxy servers act as relay between the website you’re visiting and your device. Your traffic goes through a middle-man, a remote machine used to connect you to the host server. The proxy server hides your original IP address so that the website sees the IP of the proxy. They also don’t encrypt your traffic.

There are three main types of proxy servers:
HTTP Proxies: These only supply to web pages. If you set up your browser with an HTTP proxy, all your browser traffic will be rerouted through it. They are useful for web browsing and accessing geo-restricted websites.

SOCKS Proxies: These proxies are not limited to web traffic but still only work on the application level. For example, you can set it up on a game, video streaming app, or a P2P platform. Although they can handle all kinds of traffic, they are usually slower than HTTP proxies because they are more popular and often have a higher load.

Virtual Private Network?
Like a proxy, a VPN also reroutes your internet traffic through a remote server and hides your IP address so websites can’t see your original IP or location. However, it works on the operating system level, meaning that it redirects all your traffic, whether it’s coming from your browser or a background app.

VPN Discussion / Internet user should know these Cybersecurity terms
« Last post by syncmedia123 on November 04, 2021, 04:28:52 AM »
Following are some cybersecurity terms.

Malware: Malicious code designed to infiltrate and harm computers and systems. This term is all-encompassing, and includes ransomware,
adware, viruses, etc.

Adware: Software that downloads onto a device and automatically displays or downloads ads when you’re offline.
Advanced Persistent Threats: A type of network intrusion that allows a cybercriminal to hide within a system and steal data while remaining undetected.

Antivirus: Software designed to detect and destroy computer viruses.

Attack vector: A specific path or method used by a cybercriminal to infiltrate a system.

Bad actor: A person who infiltrates and/or attacks IT systems. Also referred to as a threat actor or cybercriminal.

Bug: An unexpected, small security flaw found in software or a system.

Dark web: The part of the World Wide Web that can only be accessed using special software, allowing its contents to be untraceable by conventional search engines and its users to operate more anonymously.

Encryption: The process of converting data into a code in order to prevent unauthorized access.
Firewall: A security control that keeps traffic out of restricted areas in your network and prevents unauthorized background activity.

IP Address: A unique string of characters that identifies each computer and the connection to its network provider.

VPN Discussion / How To Protect Smart Home Devices?
« Last post by syncmedia123 on November 03, 2021, 12:03:44 AM »
Strong passwords for your smart devices
One of common reason for cybersecurity breaches is not giving our devices strong enough passwords.
A strong password is very important for security of your home devices. Password should not relate to words and numbers that relate to your life in any way like birthdays, pet’s names, and your hometown when it comes to setting passwords. The best passwords are made from completely random numbers, letters, and symbols. Randomization makes passwords nearly impossible to guess with brute force. And you can improve your security even more by changing your passwords regularly.

Encrypt your home network with a VPN
A VPN is a tool that encrypts your internet activity. People think VPN is a tool that protects us while we travel or use public Wi-Fi. But a VPN can do a lot more.
When you use a VPN enabled router, everything using your network including your computer, home security system, smartphone, and voice assistant receives that same level of internet encryption. This makes it much harder for hackers to steal your personal information or take control of devices through connection exploits.

Check your network for unusual activity
Many modern routers, smart security systems, and voice assistants can provide information about your network using the device’s corresponding app. Google devices, for example, use the Google Home app to show your recent activity on the network. Log in to these apps regularly to look for devices or activities you don’t recognize.
If you spot unusual activity, change your password. A hacked password is the most likely way an unwanted third party was able to join your network. By changing the password, you’ll boot unwanted parties and devices from your network.

Use two-factor authentication
When a new person tries to connect with your router or smart device, you can use two-factor authentication to ensure you know and trust the person requesting access.
We all recognize two-factor authentication (also known as multi-factor authentication, MFA) when it comes to our most important systems. It’s the process of using one verified method of contact (like an email or phone number) to confirm your request for access to protected information. You can set up a 2FA system in your smart home, requiring all new users or devices on your network to go through a multi-factor authentication process.
This is an easy way to passively block unwanted parties and devices from accessing your smart home network.

VPN Discussion / Are VPNs worth it? Reasons to say yes to a VPN
« Last post by syncmedia123 on November 01, 2021, 04:46:56 AM »
This question might come in your mind every time you connect to an unsecured network. The digital space can be everything you ever hoped for in terms of possibilities and endless volumes of information. your digital lifestyle can be a rewarding experience, but it takes very little for it to take a wrong turn. Threats online have tainted thousands of lives, from identity theft to account takeovers.

Following are the answers why VPN worth to use.

More privacy and anonymity
One of the main reasons for using a VPN is privacy. Have you ever bumped into targeted ads? Does your instant messaging app send metadata on your conversations to third parties?

Want to know what assumptions Google has made about you? By visiting this page, you can see a summary of your interests, age, marital status, education, gender, etc. All these details influence the ads you see. If you have not done it yet, you should always refuse ad personalization.

How can a VPN help? Well, it won’t make you completely anonymous and private online. However, you can achieve a lot by encrypting your entire internet traffic and keeping your true location a secret.

Secure your financial transactions
You are managing your finances remotely. Thus, various transactions take seconds to complete. But what about their security? Your financial information is confidential and should never be shared. However, the internet is unpredictable and not in a good way.
Credentials might leak due to unsecured connections, or criminals might extort private details through online scams. To ensure that all your financial transactions happen safely, connect to a VPN. It is incredibly essential if you accidentally reveal your financial details to an unsecured shopping site. A VPN could be the defense against such threats.

Quality streaming and more content
Shows are the entertainment we all appreciate. Be it during quarantine or a lazy Sunday, a grand selection of shows rarely disappoints. However, true enthusiasts might struggle to find new titles and get stuck in a loop of rewatching their favorite shows. Some try to find fresh content through secret Netflix codes; others might turn to VPNs.

Conclusion
Are VPNs worth to use? Yes, they are. Consider all benefits and security mechanisms that these tools apply. With them in your arsenal, your digital lifestyle will not only receive the defense it deserves. As a bonus, you will access more content, overcome censorship, beat price discrimination, etc. Thus, a VPN is a seemingly minor change that you won’t even notice after installation. However, its advantages and use cases will continue to surprise you pleasantly.

How to pick a VPN for streaming? There are some factors to consider. Here are some features to look for when selecting a VPN for streaming.

Privacy
What you stream is your concern. A VPN should be high-quality one, ensures that no one sees what you’re watching. And by that we mean that they do no logging whatsoever. Ensures that no one can view your Internet traffic, not even the provider.

Speed
No one wants to put up with buffering or throttling put in place by internet service providers (ISPs) when they’re trying to tune in. You want a fast VPN for streaming so you can sail past those roadblocks and allow you to quickly connect and stream uninterrupted while enjoying maximum bandwidth.

Ease of Use
Before you start using a VPN, read customer reviews to see if the VPN app is easy to use. Can it be downloaded quickly and easily? Is the interface easy to navigate? How soon can you be up and running? A well-designed VPN allows you to quickly connect so you can spend your time streaming instead of troubleshooting.

Connect to Several Devices
These days, people stream shows and movies on numerous devices, such as a smart TV, an Android Google Pixel or an iPad Pro. They want the convenience of using their VPN wherever and however they stream content. The best VPNs can connect to a handful of devices simultaneous.

Access to Content
We all have our favorite shows, movies, sports and music that we like to stream. You can’t always watch what you want due to restrictions put in place by streaming service providers, such as geo-blocks and blackouts. A really good VPN allows you to be able to access all of it.
