want to use vpn to punch through verizons nat firewall
« on: March 11, 2018, 08:06:49 PM »
I need to access a handful of wifi cameras in a location so remote that the only internet access is via a verizon mobile hotspot. There is no PC, just the cams, the router, a media bridge, and the hotspot. But the turds at verizon uses a nat firewall for hotspots so I cant access my cameras. Someone suggested using a VPN to punch through the firewall. My router has a built in vpn client. Let's say I get a vpn service like privateinternetaccess or whoever. My router will automatically connect to the service when it powers up. But how will I know the IP the VPN gave it? I'm assuming they wont give me my very own permanent public IP address. Can I use a combination of ddns & vpn? How would this work?
